Condition
It is difficult to establish whether the support is made up of more than one horizontal panel although there is possibly a join through the centre of the panel. In any case, the support is very stable and requires no attention, is unbevelled and uncradled. The painting has been quite quite recently cleaned, restored and re-varnished and the paint surface is very well preserved, notably in the landscape and foliage. The sky has been quite extensively strengthened and inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some retouchings to the staffage, and some minor retouchings to the shadows lower right. The varnish layer is clear and evenly applied.
Sold with a modern black and faux-tortoiseshell frame, in excellent condition.
