Haarlem School, circa 1700

bidding is closed

Description

  • A horse near a barn, with a horseman standing in the doorway, a dog in the foreground
  • oil on panel

Condition

The actual painting is warmer in tone and has less contrast than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is bevelled on all sides. Two very tiny damages, resulting in paint losses are visible in the centre to the lower right. Otherwise, no damages seem to be apparent. The paint surface, though slightly thin in the man's costume, seems to be in good condition. A few small discoloured retouchings can be observed along the upper edge and in the sky. Th epaint surface is under a dirty layer of varnish. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms the aforesaid retouchings, and reveals additional small retouchings in the lower left corner and along the lower left edge. Offered in a decarative carved and gilt wood frame in good condition. (MW)
