Description

  • Louis de Caullery
  • An elegant company making merry while eating and drinking around a table in an interior
  • oil on panel

Provenance

Anonymous sale, Vienna, Dorotheum, 21 March 2002, lot 110 (as by Louis de Caullery).

Condition

The actual painting is a bit more brown in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of two planks, joined horizontally. The join is slightly visible to the front. The panel is cradled and flat. No damages are visible to the naked eye. Minor strenghtening can be seen in the figures' costumes and background as well as minor retouchings in the figures' faces, upper left background and in the centre of the composition, but otherwise the paint surface is in good condition and covered under a fine and dense cracquelure pattern. Inspection under UV-light confirms the above. Offered in a black wood frame, in good condition. (JD)
