Catalogue Note

This picture was long thought to be by Esaias van de Velde, until reassigned to Pieter Post, elder brother of the more illustrious Frans Post, by George Keyes, in his Van de Velde catalogue raisonné.

A tentative alternative attribution to Gerrit Claesz. Bleker (c.1593-1656) has kindly been suggested by Marijke C. de Kinkelder on the basis of photographs.
