Condition
The actual painting is darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas is relined. The paint surface has somewhat flattened due to the relining and a bit dry, but is overall in good and stable condition. No damages are visible to the naked eye. Minor frame abrasion along the edges. Retouchings are visible in the sky and along the right edge and in the lower right corner. The varnish layer is dirty and discoloured and a dense and fine craquelure pattern is visible.
Inspection under UV-light confirms the aforesaid and reveals additional retouchings in the sky, strengthening of the figures and in the river and rocks lower right.
Offered in a gilt wood frame, in good condition. (JD)
