Catalogue Note

Another version, attributed to Van Oosten, was sold Amsterdam, Christie's, 8 November 1999, lot 128. This attribution was based on a signed work recorded with Galerie Robert Finck, Brussels in 1976 (see Y. Thiéry and K. de Meerendre, Les peintres flamands de paysage au XVIIe siecle. Le baroque anversois et l'école bruxelloise, 1987, p. 248).

In his monograph of De Momper Ertz records this composition, known in several versions, as by Joos de Momper with figures by Jan Breughel the Younger (see K. Ertz, Josse de Momper der Jüngere (1564-1635). Die Gemälde mit kritischem Oeuvrekatalog, Freren 1986, pp. 393-395 and 572-573, cat. nos. 380-383, reproduced).
