Attributed to Simon de Vos Antwerp 1603 - 1676

This painting is closely related to a work which was sold Dordrecht, Mak, 8 November 1927, lot 40, as by School of Rubens, which shows the same composition and figures. Both paintings can ultimately be traced back to a signed work by De Vos, on copper, which was sold New York, Sotheby's, 5 October 2001, lot 5b.

An attribution to Pieter Casteels the Elder (c.1605-c.1683) has kindly been suggested by Jan de Maere on the basis of a digital photograph.
