Condition
Support
No apparent watermark is visible in the sheet of laid paper supporting this print. There is a skilfully repaired tear running from the left edge to the left of the figures into the hind quarters of the donkey. The verso under UV light shows 11 fluorescent areas which are difficult to interpret but may also be repairs, or could be the remains of staining after cleaning. A weak crease runs from top left towards the Virgin.
Medium
The engraved lines on this print have been enhanced with black ink in many areas. This treatment is particularly visible on the Virgin's face. The verso has also been touched with the same ink to enhance the lines where ink would have penetrated the paper, were the print orignially a fine impression. These are visible under high magnification as small spots and lines.
