Engraving, circa 1498, a superb Meder a impression, on paper with a Bull's Head watermark, re-margined all around, with related pen and ink retouching, other minor defects
Provenance
Ex coll. Hippolyte Dreux (L. 1302)
Condition
Support
The fine laid paper supporting this print shows a Bull's Head watermark. In my opinion this is original and has not been introduced to the sheet, however the thinning is rather strong on the left-hand side and on the wire line running to the star above head but no obvious paper disturbance is evident in this area. At some point a false margin has been added on all sides and there may also be paper repairs on the upper and lower left corners, but these are obscured by hinges. Both the right corners may also have repairs but it is difficult to be definitive about this.
Medium
The engraving's impression is fine, however there is retouching with black ink on the edge of the false margin on all sides.
