Catalogue Note
Johann Jacob Schübler was born in 1689 and died in Nuremberg in 1741. He described himself as a mathematician, architect and amateur of painting and sculpture. This is one of six drawings sold in 1983, which were engraved and published by Jeremias Wolff in Augsburg before 1724, under the descriptive title: Johann Jacob Schüblers Vierdte Ausgab seines vorhabenden Wercks worinnen vorgestellt werden neu-inventirte Schreibtische wohl faconirte Frauenzimmer Toilette-Tische wie auch zierliche moderne Medailles und Commod Schranke. One of the other designs from the set is now in the Rhode Island School of Design, and another was exhibited in New York, Armin Allen and Hobhouse Ltd., Ornamental Drawings, October 1987, cat. no. 21 (forward by Peter Fuhring).
