Catalogue Note
The inscription at the top identifies the subject of this portrait as Catherine, the artist's daughter. In 1660 Mignard married Anna Avolara, a Roman, who then followed him to France. Their children Catherine and Charles, born before the marriage, were legitimized and they subsequently had more. Catherine was the most ambitious and devoted to her father. She sat for him and met all his famous sitters. When she was about forty, she married the Comte de Feuquières.
