Description

  • Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini
  • the holy family surrounded by angels
  • pen and brown ink and wash over black chalk; a slight study of a lower leg in red chalk, verso

Provenance

A. Stein, Paris

Exhibited

Rotterdam, Kunsthal, European Master Drawings Unveiled, 2002, cat. no. 96, reproduced

Condition

Framed. All edges but the left are rather irregular; there is a loss to the lower left corner, which does not affect the drawing and also a small (repaired) hole at the lower centre, which only touches the very edge of the wash. There are some small light brown stains to the left of the flying angel, although these seem to be working marks (thumb-prints?), contemporary with the drawing. Overall the condition is good, and the pen and wash is still fresh and strong.
