Catalogue Note

In the Genio di Boldini (see Literature), Vito Doria dates this handsome watercolour to 1910, on the basis of a reference in the archive in the Museo Boldini in Ferrara to a brief visit by Boldini to Bologna in that year.  According to that record, the Bolognese painter Achille Casanova saw Boldini one morning painting the celebrated fountain by Giambologna, while seated in a carriage.
