Condition

Laid down on a poor quality backing sheet. Lightly foxed and paper a little discoloured overall. Chalk and wash still good and fresh. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

Dr. Beck (loc. cit.) suggests that this drawing must date from around 1653, and its elaborate composition and confident handling are typical of Van Goyen's works from that period.
