Catalogue Note
Elève du mariniste Jean-François Hue et du paysagiste Pierre-Henri de Valenciennes, Millin du Perreux visita longuement l'Italie, l'Espagne, la Suisse et la France, qui lui inspirèrent des paysages très harmonieux, d'une composition classique et équilibrée, d'une grande finesse d'éxécution et d'une délicatesse presque transparente. Au début de l'Empire, il semble s'être intéressé surtout au "paysage pur", s'attachant à rendre les effets de perspective, de profondeur et de lumière, et ses tableaux sont rarement animés de figures, peints d'ailleurs, dit-on, par son ami Jean-Louis Demarne. Sous la Restauration, il sacrifia à la mode et anima ses sites de personnages, notamment Jeanne d'Arc, Henri IV, Bayard, du Guesclin etc.
