Condition

The catalogue illustration is much too greenish. The drawing is actually more brown and brighter. In the catalogue, we are missing 1 cm wide all along the left and right hand sides as well as the upper side of the composition. Mount marks on the left and superior edges (about 1 cm wide). Some small spots spread out around the sheet visible. The paper is laid down on blue paper. Very good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

La scène représente l'Education de la Vierge, d'après La Légende Dorée. Elle s'insère aisément dans la série entre le Retour d'Anne dans sa maison et la Présentation de la Vierge au Temple et comble ainsi la place manquante signalée dans l'ouvrage de A.M Gealt et G. Knox (Subjects Illustrated and Objects Omitted, p.824).
On retrouve la même caractérisation de Joachim et Anne, dans les visages comme dans les vêtements, sur le dessin provenant de la collection Fayet et aujourd'hui au musée du Louvre, La Rencontre d'Anne et de Joachim devant le Temple (Département des Arts graphiques, RF 1713 bis [113]).
