Provenance
Bernardel sold this cello to a Monsieur Méreau in 1842. Before taking possesion of the new instrument, M. Méreau requested that the cellist Arnaud Dancla (brother of the celebrated violinist Charles Dancla) try the instrument. According to Bernardel, Dancla, preferring to play in public on the new instrument rather than his own, was rather reluctant to return it.
The cello was aquired by the present owner's family during the first half of the 20th century.
