Both the painting and the paper are in good condition. There is no sign of foxing, tearing, punctures, creasing or watermarks. There are, however, four minute pin-sized holes (corners), which were probably from pins that were used to secure the painting during execution by the artist. The colours that are represented in the catalogue are overall too reddish and the grey in the painting is more matt than and not as purplish as illustrated. (This condition report was conducted without removing the painting from the frame, under the glass).

This painting is the original gouache which the artist used to illustrate in his book "Island of Bali", 1937 on page 267
