Catalogue Note
Projects for the Reconstruction of the Starry Sky comprises a series of images depicting geometric stellar constellations against the night sky. The inspiration for this project stems from Infante's observations of the sky at night on the Black Sea coast. In particular, he was struck by the fact that an infinitely vast space, such as the firmament, can appear completely two-dimensional to the human eye, as if it were a canvas. There also exists a contradiction between our knowledge that the stars are racing away from each other at unfathomable speed and our perception of the sky as fixed.
Infante likens this project to 'the ideology of Constructivism, and in particular changing the appearance of the immediate environment in accordance with the rules of subjective aesthetics. [...] Hence [it is] specifically a project of RE-construction and, in my mind, a projected concept of putting everything in its place'
