Catalogue Note

One of Ireland's most innovative and versatile artists, O'Reilly has become well known for his dynamic visual vocabulary. Group of Nine demonstrates his recent aim to explore three dimensional form using the traditional two dimensional medium of the artist's canvas.

Born in Kilkenny, he studied briefly at the Belfast College of Art but he is largely self-taught.  His early installation work was the subject of a solo exhibition at the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane in 1996 and was aptly titled A Silent Scream.  He has also exhibited extensively at galleries such as The Mayor Gallery, London and The Galerie Piltzer, Paris. Public commissions have included Queen Maeve on Burlington Road, Dublin and his Heading into Town was in situ on Grafton Street, Dublin during 2006.
