Catalogue Note
O'Dowd visited the Leighton Artists Colony in Banff, Alberta in 1989 as part of an Irish-Canadian exchange. She was particularly inspired by the monumental proportions of Bridal Veil Fall, a dramatic waterfall in the Banff National Park originating from the Huntington Glacier and draining into the North Saskatchewan River. In the present work, the epic grandeur of the waterfall is translated into O'Dowd's vibrant style combining heavy impasto with intense aqua hues.
