Catalogue Note

Influenced by her Greek heritage, Musgrave's work often draws inspiration from Greek mythology and in particular, the alluring qualities of female Amazons and their mysterious multi-faceted identity as both warriors and worshippers of the moon.  In the present work, two Amazon-like figures sit elegantly astride their horses and the combination of figure and animal also relates to Musgrave's Irish background and the particular affinity between humans and horses in Irish culture.

Born in Dublin to an Irish father and Greek mother, Musgrave studied sculpture at the City & Guilds of London. She has had numerous solo exhibitions with galleries such as the Mall Gallery, London; John Martin Gallery, London; and Jorgensen Fine Art, Dublin and she was awarded the prestigious sculpture prize at this year's Royal Hibernian Academy's Summer Exhibition.
