Catalogue Note

The present lot appears to be from an as yet unidentified service inspired by that commissioned by Liverpool Corporation for a banquet given on 18th September 1806 for the Prince of Wales (later George IV). The Prince was so taken by the banqueting service that he commissioned a second and larger service engraved with his own crest. That service is now in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. For a fuller discussion of these services, see C.Hajdamach, British Glass 1800-1914, pp.39-41.
