A pair of George IV cut-glass and ormolu-mounted three-light candelabra 1st quarter 19th century, attributed to John Blades

each with central stem above two foliate cast scrolling branches, each drip pan hung with two tiers of lusters above a canopied standard on an ormolu base

The present candelabra have marked stylistic affinities with the work of the leading early 19th century glass manufacturer, John Blades of Ludgate Hill, London, glassmaker to George III. Blades is first recorded in 1783, trading from premises at 5 Ludgate Hill, where he continued in business until his death in 1829 (cf.
