A Chinese coromandel lacquer chest early 18th century

the top decorated with scenes of birds and butterflies in rocaille gardens, the front and sides with four panels depicting figures in mountainous landscapes, birds, blossom and flowers, with giltmetal carrying handles, all supported on later bun feet

A closely related coromandel lacquer chest with gilt stand with original provenance from Charles Townsend, 2nd Viscount Raynham (1675-1738) at Raynham Hall, sold Christie's London, 24 November 2005, lot 41.
