Description

  • 196cm. high, 122cm. wide, 57cm. deep; 6ft.5¼, 4ft., 1ft. 10½in.
the top with a double fluted moulded cornice with carved roundels above a pair of doors with carved roundels, enclosing sliding trays, the base with two short and two long drawers, on shaped bracket feet, the handles apparently original, the cornice with a label "Miss Wyatt's in care of Rev.d L.D. Hastings Colming Rectory, Trowbridge, Wilt" and another illegible, . 

Catalogue Note

A mahogany linen or clothes press of very similar form to the present lot was supplied by Chippendale, Haig & Co. to Ninian Home for Paxton House, Berwickshire, in 1774 and is illustrated in C.Gilbert, The Life and Works of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, p.138, fig.248.
