Description

  • Framed: (119cm. high, 86cm. wide; 3ft. 11in., 2ft. 10in.); Textile visible: (91.5cm. high, 61.5cm. wide; 3ft., 2ft.)
worked in gros and petit point, in polychrome silk threads, with a central figural grouping of a mother and child, a small bird finely worked below the female figure, with a surround of flowering, foliate and fruiting stems, the top foliate branch supporting a brightly plummed parrot, and another smaller bird perches in branches in the lower left corner, a platform base to the left of the composition with a seated musician, the lower section with a stylised shaped lake with two swans and a river bank with a kneeling male figure in one corner and a mythical beast in the other, all on a yellow silk diaper patterned ground; the top corner sections associated; now mounted in a later giltwood and glazed frame
