- 262cm. high, 53cm. wide, 25.5cm. deep; 8ft. 7in., 1ft. 9in., 10in.
decorated throughout with gold chinoiseries on a deep red ground, the pediment surmounted by three silvered and gilded ball finials, the dial with strike / silent in the arch above the silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals surrounded by gilt metal filigree spandrels, with subsidiary seconds dial, a date aperture and the steel plaque inscribed "Willm Sellers, London", the eight-day two-train striking movement has an anchor escapement
Catalogue Note
William Sellers was born circa 1668, was apprenticed in February 1682 to John Clowes and made Free of the Clockmakers’ Company in November 1691. He worked in Long Acre, London and took a number of apprentices. It is thought that he continued working until 1740 when it is presumed he died.
