the silvered engraved weather indicator with an adjustable barometric dial set within four Ionic columns between a moulded canopy top capped by an ivory finial, all supported on a tapering reeded column inset with a later thermometer signed D. Davis, London, with an ivory backplate, on a square pedestal opening to reveal the mercury bowl with brass fittings

Little is known about the maker E. Dawes. He was probably related to the clockmaker James Dawes, listed in Parson and White's 1829 Directory at 4, Queen Street, Whitehaven, Cumbria.
