Suspending a square antique step-cut emerald weighing approximately 47.60 carats, on an articulated chain set with brilliant- and step-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 19.15 carats, mounted in platinum, length approximately 450mm.
Provenance
Property formerly from the Estate of Irving Berlin and Ellin Mackay Berlin, and was previously sold by Sotheby's New York in April 1991.
Condition
Colour and Clarity: According to AGL report, the centre emerald is natural, of classic Colombian origin, with insignificant clarity enhancement. Also accompanied by a special appendix letter highlighting the fine quality and rarity of this emerald. Please refer to the report and letter for details. In our opinion, this emerald is of medium to medium dark, intense green colour, with only minor inclusions to naked eyes. Under 10x loupe, most crystal inclusions are close to the pavilion and there is one tiny opening on the crown close to girdle. Overall, this emerald is of exceptional quality for the combination of huge size, vibrant colour and good clarity. Diamonds on the necklace is probably of E to F colours, VVS2 to VS clarity.
Condition: The emerald, previously owned by Mr. Irving Berlin, famous songwriter of Broadway and Hollywood, is mounted as a pendant on a sautoir, in mint condition.
