Description

  • Van Cleef & Arpels
Designed as a lacework bow of ruffled lattice motif studded with round diamonds, the hinged center surmounted by a diamond floret, opening to reveal a circular watch dial, the straps completed by snake chain loops and a diamond-studded oval clasp, the whole set with 126 round diamonds weighing approximately 8.00 carats, length 7 inches, backwind, case numbered 314357A, bracelet signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered N.Y. 15722.

Condition

Movement 16 jewels, signed Le Coultre Co. with Swiss hallmarks. Dial is matte cream, unsigned, with applied baton numerals and arabic numerals. Movement #242151, caliber 426, the smallest back crown winding movement. Note: Care must be taken when winding and setting the watch because of the back crown - there no longer are parts available. Manual movement, currently running. The diamonds are approximately G-I color and VS-SI clarity. In good condition overall. Signed Van Cleef & Arpels N.Y. and numbered 15722 on clasp back. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

This bracelet-watch is a fine example of the "rĂ©sille" or lattice style of  polished and pierced gold created by Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1940s. See Sylvie Raulet, Van Cleef & Arpels, p. 215.
