Catalogue Note
first edition. The actual work is quite slight, and is a compilation made from the accounts of a merchant named Sulaiman, continued by Abu Zaid Hasan ibn Yazid al-Sirafi. Most of the volume is given over to the extensive annotations and discussions of the eminent French scholar and arabist Eusèbe Renaudot (1648-1720). The work was also published in an English version (1733) and in 1749 in an enlarged Italian edition. It was also included in Pinkerton's Voyages. The Arabic text was in part published by de Guignes in Notices et extraits Tome I, again in 1811 and then fully with a French translation in 1845.
