Catalogue Note

The author, a Swede formerly called Tabbert, was taken prisoner by the Russians after the defeat of Charles XII. With the Prussian naturalist Messerschmidt he explored the lower basins of the rivers Obi and Yenesei, his book being, for a long time, the only guide to the area. It includes a Calmucko-Mungalicum vocabulary and a table comparing "ancient" and "modern" Arabic characters.
