Catalogue Note

first edition in latin. Schmidel, the son of a wealthy merchant, enlisted in Pedro de Mendoza's expedition to Brazil and Paraguay and kept diaries of his journeys. His German account was first published in 1567 and was then included in both de Bry's and Hulsius's collections of voyages. The present edition was translated from Hulsius's edition.
