Provenance

James Paris du Plessis, 1689 (various inscriptions on endpapers). Presumably this is the person of the same name who was sometime servant to Samuel Pepys and author of the illustrated manuscript A short history of human prodigious and monstrous births (Sloane 3253, Add. 5246).

first edition. rare. ''the first account in english of the art of bull fighting, then in its formative stage... a Spanish translation was published by the Unión de Bibliófilos Taurinos in 1962. The [folding plate] is of historical value, depicting the plaza Mayor in Madrid as it was before its destruction by fire in 1672'' (G. Martin Murphy in ODNB).
