Catalogue Note
Based on the chronicle of Damio de Goes, Osório's take on the reign of Manuel I of Portugal (1495-1521) is in the elegant Latin that caused him to be dubbed "the Portuguese Cicero". The first edition was printed in Lisbon in 1571 and the work, featuring the exploits of Vasco de Gama, Magellan, Cabral, Almeida and Albuquerque, was often reprinted and translated.
