Provenance

Thomas Smith (1638-1710), fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, ownership inscription and copious marginal notes in Latin, Greek and Hebrew: "sequentes annotationes in margine... exscripsi ex codice viri illustris Josephi Scaligeri sua manu". The copy that Smith consulted is now BL Or.70.b.12.

Catalogue Note

This work is a Latin translation and continuation until 1588 of a history by Muhammed ibn Hasanjan, a manuscript of which Hieronymus Beck had brought back from Constantinople in 1551. Joannes Leunclavius (or Hans Löwenklaw) travelled in Turkey from 1582.
