Catalogue Note

Huchtenburg's fine plates, conceived along the lines of those by Van der Meulen commemorating the victories of Louis XIV, represent the ten most famous victories of Prince Eugène of Savoy between 1697 and 1717. According to Lipperheide, the plates were not engraved by Huchtenburg himself, as is claimed on the title-page and in the captions. The second work is a reworking of the first and was published in three parts between 1729 and 1747.
