Catalogue Note

Baldaeus was a Dutch missionary to Ceylon assigned to Jaffna, the Tamil region in the north of the island. He arrived in 1656 and remained until 1665. He includes extensive descriptions of the geography of the region, as well as of its natural history, the wars between the Dutch and Portuguese, the Hindu religion and local customs.
