Description

  • height 13 in. (33cm)
of large scale, the triple-arched backplate engraved and chased with foliage, fitted with four openwork columns and surmounted by two griffons, two detachable candle holders, and two detachable lanterns, centered by a double-headed eagle, crown, and hands of the Cohanim, the sides fitted with fretted buttresses chased with lion and other animal heads, topped by cornucopiae, the gallery with lion-form fonts flanked by vases of flowers, on four scroll supports, marked near center of backplate

Condition

minor losses and repairs throughout, one lantern probably replaced, one support for sconce missing from upper backplate, small split in center below applied hands
