GOLD AND MICRO MOSAIC BROOCH/PENDANT, 1860s

The central circular panel set with multi-coloured tesserae depicting a theatrical mask of a woman, suspending a pair of similarly decorated kite-shaped drops, and an elongated pear-shaped central drop, the borders framed by twisted gold work and beading, to a later chain, composite.

Stamped 14K for 14 carat gold to panel on later chain. Some small losses of multi-coloured tesserae to circular panel and to tops of each kite shaped drop. Composite jewel as the kite shaped drops were probably a pair of earrings, these could be converted back although the original surmounts and earring fittings are no longer in existence. Later pin catch fitting and pendant fitting to reverse of circular panel with some traces of lead solder not visible when worn, evidence of where original pendant would have been. Scratches and indentations to reverse consistent with age and wear. In overall good condition.
