Description

One designed as a bird perched on a branch, the body set with an oval polished turquoise, to a collar of circular-cut sapphires, the eye and feet embellished with similarly-cut rubies, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered, maker's marks and French assay marks, together with a brooch of foliate spray design, embellished throughout with brilliant-cut diamonds of various sizes, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered, maker's marks and French assay marks.

Condition

Bird Brooch: Numbered 71050 to hinge of pin. Oval cabochon turquoise with green discolouration. Rubies of reddish-purple hue, medium to high saturation of colour. Typical inclusions visible under 10x magnification. Sapphires of bluish-violet hue, medium to high saturation of colour. Typical inclusions visible under 10x magnification. Some minor indentations and scratching to head of bird. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. In good condition. Foliate Brooch: Numbered 62.682 to hinge of pin. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 2.65 carats, estimated colour H-J, estimated clarity VS-SI. Evidence of lead solder and burning to reverse of hinge. In very good condition.
