each inset with two sunken oval Shibayama inlaid panels depicting different scenes, one vase with the demon queller Shoki subjugating a helpless oni as he pins him to the ground, the other with an oni attempting to lift the large bell of Dojoji lacquered in sabeji-nuri; the reverse of both with cranes among bamboo, all bordered by  geometric designs, rinzu and asa-no-ha motifs, whilst the edges of both vases are decorated with a mokume design in togidashi, unsigned
