Catalogue Note

The present painting belongs to Stematsky's works of the fifties, which Yona Fischer describes as "...the years of Stematsky's crystallization as a mature artist... starting from the mid fifties, paintings in which the representation of identifiable elements (such as figures and buildings) is integrated with abstract patches of color (such as squares and triangles), so that together they may build a flattened image." (Yona Fischer (ed.), Avigdor Stematksy, Tel Aviv, 1993, p. 84).
