Catalogue Note

The number 2 refers to the foundry's list of Degas' wax models, which were each cast in bronze in an edition of twenty-two between 1919 and 1921.  The first twenty in each edition were numbered from A to T and destined for sale; the remaining two casts were reserved for the Degas heirs and for the founder, Hébrard and marked HER.D and HER respectively.
