Catalogue Note

Nearly every component the case and dial of IWC's Ref 5310 is 12-sided, or dodecagonal, radiating symmetry from the minute indexation to the months to the 12-sided crown. In the promotional literature announcing the release of this model in 1984, IWC notes that the back cover of the watch was designed specifically to be very thick, allowing the owner to engrave his own sign of the zodiac on the piece. The back cover on the present example remains unengraved.

The unusual calendar configuration of this pieces means that the date hand makes a full rotation only once a year, moving an infintesimal 0.986 degrees daily.
