Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a certificate from Breguet No. 3989 dated April 14th, 1991 listing the date of sale as 7 Mars 1812 vendu à Monsieur Wenhem for the price of 1466 Francs. The certificate further reflects that the watch returned to Breguet where it was 'revisée for the Compte du Prince Gagarine.'

Prince Nikolai Viktorovich Gagarine was born June 12th, 1895 into the Gagarin noble family, which descended from the Rurik Dynasty, an early Russian rulership. His second wife, Ekaterina Ilyinitchna Iakounine, bore him two sons. As neither were recognized by Prince Gagarine, the title of Prince was not conferred on them, and upon his death on May 10th, 1925, there were no heirs to his title.

Wenham was a well-known agent for Breguet and frequently worked in the Eastern European and Russian markets.
