The numbers between the lugs are 1218606 and 1675. Inside the back is stamped 1675. The strap of this wristwatch is made from an endangered species; please refer to Important Notices for further information.

Catalogue Note

This model, Ref. 1675, was released in 1960 and was initially available in gold, steel and steel-gold two-tone. The steel model was the first GMT-Master to feature crown guards, whereas the gold versions, such as the present lot, retained the earlier design without shoulders.

Gold GMT-Masters were made in smaller production numbers and are rarer than their steel counterparts. For this reason, they are more sought-after in the present collecting market.

For a similar example, see Patrizzi, O., Collecting Rolex Wristwatches, p. 249. For more information on the development of the GMT-Master model, see lot 57.
