- A very fine and rare curved gold rectangular wristwatch with flared sides'Hour Glass', 1953, no.975.463, ref.2442
- length 30mm.
18k, damascened tonneau nickel lever movement (cal.9-90), gyromax balance, precision regulator, silvered dial, applied Arabic and faceted triangular numerals, subsidiary dial for constant seconds, curved rectangular case with large rounded flared sides, case, dial and movement signed, with associated gold bracelet, accompanied by an Extract from the Archives
Catalogue Note
The accompanying Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirms that this wristwatch was manufactured in 1953 and sold on November 7th the same year.
Production of reference 2442 started in 1948 and ceased around 1960. Research shows that approximately 150 examples were made in yellow gold and it remains one of the rarest and most exclusive rectangular models by Patek Philippe. To the best of our knowledge, the present lot has not been offered at auction before. A similar watch is illustrated in Huber, M. & Banbery, A., Patek Philippe Wristwatches, Second edition, p.136, pl.193.
