Catalogue Note

The accompanying Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirms that this pocket watch was manufactured in 1938 and sold on December 21st the same year.

The present watch is extremely rare and it seems highly likely that it was a special order. With a 40mm case diameter, its size is small for a pocket watch and bears a slightly domed snap-on case back reminiscent of wristwatches of the period. The watch incorporates a calibre 13-130 movement, identical to those used in chronograph wristwatches of the period such as the reference 130 (see Huber, M. & Banbery, A., Patek Philippe Wristwatches, Second Edition, pp.262 & 269). The extraordinary two-tone sector dial bears four calibrated tracks for: chronograph seconds; constant time calibrated in black enamel; split level tachometer with outer ring calibrated from base 1000 to 60 and inner spiral from 60 to 20. The only known archive image of the watch is shown here and clearly illustrates this actual watch.
